Norwegian Fjords

People familiar with my work refer to this image as my Ansel Adams photograph. His art has inspired every photographer and I can only imagine what he would think about todays camera technology. What unfolds as you travel the Fjords of Norway, is a fantastic vision of water and rock. Fjords were carved by a massive sheet of ice that covered Northern Europe in a succession of ice ages. A Fjord has steep land on three sides. If the geological formation is wider than it is long, it is not a fjord. Then it is a bay or cove. Years ago I asked a seasoned cruise ship captain where is the most beautiful place he had ever sailed. He declared without delay, "the Norwegian Fjords." And so began my journey to cruise the Fjords.

Location: Norway.
